July 2026: Canada Partners with Fonopule Niutao [Kaupule Niutao] to Improve WASH Facilities
Whibley Memorial Primary School in Niutao received major Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) upgrades through a new partnership between Fonopule Niutao (currently known as ‘Kaupule Niutao’) and Global Affairs Canada.
The Contribution Agreement, signed on 28 July 2026, provides CAD 54,000 to improve toilets, bathrooms, handwashing stations, lighting, and develop the school’s first WASH and Safety Management Plan.
Running until February 2027, the project will benefit over 200 students and staff, strengthening hygiene, child protection, and gender‑equality practices for a safer, more inclusive learning environment.
